My Third of the Apple Pie
Life's a big apple pie cut into thirds. Your employer confiscates one. Mice eat another one while you sleep (or cats in my case). A third is left entirely for you. You can eat it while writing poetry, while making love to a wonderful woman/man, while riding your bicycle around town or while playing sweet licks on your guitar. That last third tastes sweet, tastes sour, it's small and it's big, but at the end of the day you can do whatever you want with it. It's yours. Either savour it slowly or devour it. Make it the highlight of your day. The meal to look forward to.
More shallow laurels
Just found out I won a short story competition organized by my university, and placed second at a competition for poetry in English judged by the editor Jamie Osbourne of the international magazine "The Missing Slate". Lately, these kind of news are rotten food; can't feed the soul with them, can't buy real food for the stomach with them. Thus I commence a quest to find the spiritual and corporeal livelihood in my writing.
In need of Felix Felicis
Been too long since I had one of these.
Anyone remember reading Harry Potter in their childhoods. Those mischievous days. Now remember reading about Felix Felicis, the liquid luck potion. Oh how fortuitous would have been for our evil plans back in the day, if we had just a drop of that potion.
I find myself in a similar position ten years later. So many obstacles ahead and feels like I'm trampling blind, crushing over little things, without that feeling that I can always take the right road. There's too much at steak (I always misspell when hungry).
This didn't come out of nowhere. Was dreaming about my childhood crush la
The Times They Are a-Changin'
As Bob remarked a while back, we cannot stand against the onslaught, we'll break and be swept away. My vain nature and head-strong foolishness has got me in many a trouble, and I cannot seem to let go of that part of me. With every mistake I make, my cynical nature just reaffirms itself, and it makes me kinda masochistically satisfied. There are people that once enjoyed my company, but are now disgusted by my hideous bullhead. Keeping all this in mind I am yet searching for satisfaction in letting things go...

I just wanted to ask as a writer, do you keep rough drafts of your written work?
Me; I have over 100 old notebook, note pads, and loose-leaf binders full of all my written words. I know this may sound odd but even if its just scribbled notes I keep it. Sometimes my notes don't even make a bit of since but it is the creativity I put into them that makes it fun. It was a long time ago but back in my school days an English teacher of mine gave me the idea; and I've been collecting ever since. I am truly glad I took the advice. Now I try to carry a notepad everywhere I go to jot down the little things that come to my mind. I feel maybe one day I might put it all together in a book of some sort. When ever I feel I've hit a writers block I go through my notebooks. When pulling ideas from them insprational sparks flys and sometimes a masterpiece is born.... Yes writers block has led me to stop writing on several occasions; yet if going back to my notebooks doesn't work to break the block I also use this writing exercise to help get my muse back flowing.....Maybe It Will Help You...
first set a timmer for 5 minutes
write without stopping untill the timmer goes off
do not lift your pen from the paper
don't think about what you are writing
write anything but do not stop writing
when the timmer rings look back over what you've written
the goal of this exercise is to fill the paper with words
and you just might see something that sparks your interest
if so use it as a point of departure for your work
if not don't be discourage just try again
if anything comes out of this exercise consider it a bonus
you can now use your newfound creative ideas for a new poem...
Give this exercise a try and let me know how things turn out...
